Many couples getting started in kink or BDSM have an awkwardness to overcome involving the newness of it all and the uncertainty of how to play, as well as learning important safety aspects. Like in my case, I had some trouble ‘hitting’ girls. I had been clearly taught that was something you just do not do. After awhile I came around to being comfortable with it because she enjoys it and so do I.  Win – Win? You bet! Then after breaking through the all the socializations, I needed to have skills and confidence. Sometimes several false starts are made, or worse, from simply a lack of understanding and skills things can go wrong and it all stops even although it could have been very rewarding for both people.

Everyone had to start out as a ‘newbie’. I remember many false starts, going down wrong roads and a long passing of time before I was able to realize and enjoy some my fantasies and cravings. The learning curve was slow with many miss-steps. It was difficult to learn some of the more important aspects with only books and internet. My answer was to start going to public events to watch others and to attend every workshop of interest that I could. This was still slow but got me going on the right foot. Today, there does not seem to be as many workshops available and there are many couples that are not comfortable appearing at public events.
